Upon realizing the lack of a strings program in the schools of Sierra Vista and surrounding communities, the Cochise County Youth Orchestra was launched in January of 2002 with an initial enrollment of six students.

The “strings only” ensemble is currently comprised of violins, violas, cellos, and string bass. Over the years the orchestra has been growing in size, as well evolving and expanding its style to include a wide variety of music, including classical, old-time fiddle, western swing, jazz, Celtic and modern day popular songs. Orchestra members enjoy the variety and learn different techniques with each musical style.

Program Purpose:  To give the children of our community the opportunity to play string music in a group setting.

Mission:  The orchestra is dedicated to building responsibility, discipline, and communication skills in our local youth through music.
